Grit, Determination, Hardness, Timber, Courage and Quality Players right to the end are only some of the words that would sum up this win over Blarney in Minor A Hurling League.
Rovers started well and created good scoring chances but didn’t convert the early opportunities, Blarney did take most of their chances and looked dangerous in their inside forward line. Jack's puck outs were good and we fielded great ball through Conor and Shane with Cormac & Matty getting on the breaking ball and we started to convert to Points. The Muskery based referee was very hard on our players and we’re getting no favor from rough and lose hurling and deliberate fouling of our players. Blarney scored 2 Goals in the first half that we should have dealt with better but we kept trying even though we had 9 wides but at the short whistle we were only 4 points down on a score line of Bride Rovers -11 Blarney 2-9.
At half time we reminded the lads that we were very much still in the game, that they were creating the chances and just to keep trying to do the right thing and win the second half, fair play and credit to the young men from the banks of the Bride and they made the second half a great battle indeed.
We often say forwards win games but I’d have to say it was the tough, dogged and quality of play from our six backs Ronan, Adam, Jamie, Gary, Darragh, Gary and Gearoid sweeping up ball as did midfielders Matty & Cormac in the second half that gave us the platform to turn the game in our favor. We scored our first goal from Conor with Jack, Conor & Cormac contributed with point from Play & Frees. Sean at center forward worked very hard as did Darragh, Con, Shane and we passed great ball around the forward line and took our very hard earned chances.
On the 51st minute it was Rovers 1-16 & Blarney 4-12 after our opponents scored 2 more goals, most teams might throw in the towel but that’s never in the Rovers spirit and they kept going we were improving right to the end and hunted every thing more and got our reward with a second goal from Conor and 4 more unanswered points from our forwards & midfielders out scoring our opponents 1-4 to -0 in the last 10 minutes.
Really well done to the lads tonight on a great & spirited win over Blarney on a scoreline of Bride Rovers 2-20 Blarney 4-12
